MP’s “100-bln-euro” remark creates social media stir

A controversial comment by a SYRIZA MP candidate – who switched sides from a right-of-center party – that Greece’s central bank itself print 100 billion in euros to resolve any liquidity block by the ECB generated a firestorm of reaction on social media users in the country

Newsroom January 16 09:44

Twitter’s Greece trends on Friday showed that “Ραχηλ”, Greek for “Rachel”, as in Rachel Makri, the one-time Independent Greeks cadre, was number four on Friday evening.

Amongst others, a depiction of Makri on the obverse of the old 1,000-drachma bill, in place of a revolutionary war heroine, circulated throughout the Internet via social media. The bill was dubbed the “Rachel-thousand”.
