Donald Trump: None will be spared from tariffs, says on mobile phones, computers and chips – “They will be put in a separate basket”

"Nobody gets out of trouble" is the new message of the US President - He announced an investigation into the entire electronics chain at the National Security Committee on Tariffs

Newsroom April 14 08:31

New announcements on tariffs on cell phones, computers and chips were made in the early hours of Monday morning by Donald Trump, claiming there will be a “separate basket of tariffs” for these product categories.

“Nobody gets out of trouble, especially China, which treats us worse,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform, claiming that “no ‘exemption’ from tariffs was announced on Friday. These products are subject to the existing 20% tariffs on fentanyl and are simply being moved to a different tariff “bucket”. Fake News knows this, but refuses to report it.”

He even announced that there would be a separate investigation into the semiconductor industry and “the entire electronics supply chain” in an upcoming investigation by the National Security Committee on Tariffs.

“What has been revealed is that we need to produce products in the United States and that we will not be held hostage by other countries, especially hostile trading nations like China, who will do everything in their power to disrespect the American People,” the US president continued in his post.

“We also cannot let them continue to abuse us on trade as they have for decades, those days are over! America’s Golden Age, which includes the upcoming tax and regulation cuts, a significant amount of which have just been approved by the House and Senate, will mean more and better paying jobs, producing products in our Nation and treating other countries, especially China, the same way they have treated us,” Trump claims in his post.

He concludes his post by writing: “The bottom line is that our country will be bigger, better and stronger than ever before. We will make AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

This follows hours earlier a statement by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in an interview on the ABC television network and on “This Week” that smart phones, computers, and some other electronic devices will be included in a separate level of tariffs, along with semiconductors (chips).

According to Lutnik, these tariffs may be imposed after about a month.
