The Spanish tennis player had an adductor issue in his right leg from the final of the Barcelona Open, which he lost to Holger Rune, and he made an effort to play in Madrid, which starts this week.

However, on Thursday, he announced that he will not participate.

“In the final in Barcelona, I had pain in my right adductor, but I also noticed discomfort in my left hip. On Tuesday, I had examinations, and together with my team and the doctors, we assessed the situation to see if I would be able to train and play without taking any major risks. I did everything possible to make it, I’ve been looking forward to playing in this tournament all year; unfortunately, things did not go well,” Alcaraz said about his injury.

It is unlikely he will make it to the Rome Open that follows, but he will be at Roland Garros (May 25 – June 8).

“On Monday, I will have examinations again to see how everything is progressing. After that, we will evaluate what we will do in the coming days and see how I feel. In a few weeks, I will gradually return to training. I don’t want to take anything for granted. We are confident about Roland Garros, but we’ll see about Rome,” he noted.
