Parliament: Fierce clash between Florides and Velopoulos over Karoni’s conclusion from the National Technical University of Athens on the Tempi

Kyriakos Velopoulos attempted to personally belittle Professor Karonis, whom he called "Marmaroni and Omer Vryonis"

Newsroom May 14 04:46

Sharp conflict over the dividend of the National Technical University of Athens for the Tempi had Giorgos Floridis and Kyriakos Velopoulos in the plenary session of the Parliament.

The Minister of Justice reacting to the attempt of Mr. Velopoulos’ attempt to discredit scientifically the conclusion and personally Professor Dimitrios Karoni – whom he called “Marmaroni and Omer Vryoni” – called on the president of the Hellenic Solution to answer if he insists on what he claimed in the recent past about “hidden dead”, “lost wagons” and “flying flies”.

The clash also involved the New Left parliamentary representative Nassos Iliopoulos, who was heard saying to the wing of the government majority, “you are bum,s” but also Mr. Alexandros Kazamis of the Eleftherias Party, who called Mr. Florides a “political clown” and insisted on cover-up scenarios, citing polls.

“It is not possible that while the minister is speaking, Mr. Hliopoulos is addressing the members of the New Democracy party and saying that we are bums. He should return to the room and recant. Otherwise, the sanctions provided for in the rules should be imposed. We understand that there is tension and tension but we will not tolerate the insults to the competition of the left who are trying to take the 1.5% to 2%” replied ND parliamentary representative Thanos Plevris while addressing Plysi Eleftherias he said: “Mrs. Konstantopoulou should come here and apologize to the relatives of the dead driver who had linked him to the transportation of illegal cargo”

Florides: “Where have your flies gone, Mr Velopoulos? You deliberately misled”

“So, Mr. Velopoulos, the dead in Tempi are 57? And the 53 who had gone up without a ticket,t and you were looking for them, what happened to them? Those 3 wagons that went missing were eventually found? Did you find them? Shouldn’t the Greek people know what happened? Was that wagon with hundreds of tons of illegal material found? The smuggler with the 25 tons that in the process became 20, 10, and ended up 3, where were they found? Those flies in the videos were found?” the Minister said, addressing Mr. Velopoulos, and continued: “Did you catch the 50 thousand hooded electronic accounts that were activated by a foreign country to attack Greece? Did you check which of your favourite countries they were from? Search the announcements of the Greek cybersecurity agency, and you will get answers.”

Responding to Mr. Velopoulos’s attempt to challenge Mr. Karonis and argue that the conclusion does not bear the stamp of the NTUA, Florides said, “There are 2 NTUA expert reports. In addition to the one by Mr. Karonis, there is also one by Mr. Tsakiridis, which says there was no trace of fire in the engineers’ cabin. Just as there was no trace of fire in the train allegedly carrying the illegal material. I understand your predicament, Mr Velopoulos. It didn’t come from us. It’s from the people you knowingly misled by lying to them. It is with these people that you must settle your accounts. Some people would have been troubled by what the country has gone through in the last two years and the great damage done to society by a fabricated conspiracy driven by forces from within and forces from abroad.”

Velopoulos: “When did I talk about more dead and lost wagons in Tempi?”

In response, Velopoulos distanced himself from the “hidden dead” and “lost wagons” scenarios, claiming they were not his theories but questions raised by relatives. “Tell me, when did I say there were extra dead? I conveyed the questions of the relatives. When did I say there were more wagons? I read an article in Kathimerini. When did I say 25 tons of wood? You talk about smugglers when the government doesn’t touch smugglers. Are you talking about flies? There is no video based on what the IEA says. I said it’s another season, not winter. We know how video tampering is done better than you do. You also told us sprayed theories about 50 thousand accounts.”

Earlier, the President of the Hellenic Solution attempted a scientific deconstruction of the National Technical University of Athens’ conclusion by suggesting that the government request a new expert opinion from three leading foreign universities.

“I say we should go to three universities because the score could be 3-0, but it could also be 2-1,” he said.

At the same time, the President of the Hellenic Solution claimed that the recent conclusion attributing the pyrosphere to the oils of the train engines is not from the NTUA but from the “natural person Karoni”. “What Karonis and Vryonis say is of no interest to us. We had 57 dead there,” he said at another point.

“It’s not a finding, it’s a conclusion and a Karoni case. When there are contradictions within the Karoni case, how can I take him seriously? He says he saw the videos. I have the 29-page confidential report of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police. It says in it that no recording was found on February 28, 2023, the day of the crash. So what video did he see? He saw other videos of another day and not the specific day of the crash. But there are no videos of the 28th. How does he know what has happened? Unless he is a time traveler,” Velopoulos said.

“He (Mr. Karonis) talks about the ignition of silicone oils. He says that under stationary conditions, silicone oils do not burn. In every paper, at the end, there is a conclusion. I read “so as far as combustion is concerned it is reasonable to assume…”. Science does not mean hypothesis. It means their,y experiment proof,” he noted.
