Bus blunder: Panathinaikos team bus driver in Abu Dhabi

He first took the team to a football stadium for practice, and on the way back he drove them to the airport instead of the hotel

Newsroom May 21 10:30

Panathinaikos is in Abu Dhabi for the Euroleague Final Four. The reigning European champions will face Fenerbahce, coached by Sarunas Jasikevicius, in the semifinal. If they qualify, they will play against either Monaco or Olympiacos.

The “Greens” trained at the Etihad Arena, but unexpected mishaps occurred before and after practice. Before practice, the team bus driver took them to Al Jazira’s football stadium instead of the Etihad Arena.

The Panathinaikos squad didn’t know where they were and walked for several minutes in the scorching heat. Eventually, the driver was notified and picked them up again to take them to the basketball arena.

After practice—which included participation from Mathias Lessort—the driver made another mistake and took them to the airport instead of the hotel. Eventually, after coordinating, the team returned to the hotel to rest.
