USA: FBI Reopens Case on Cocaine Found in the White House in 2023

The discovery of a small amount of cocaine near the West Wing of the White House in July 2023 had sparked strong reactions from Republicans — with Donald Trump suggesting the drugs belonged to Hunter Biden

Newsroom May 26 07:00

The FBI is reopening a much-discussed case by order of the agency’s deputy director, Dan Bongino.

In an announcement made Monday via the platform X (formerly Twitter), Bongino stated that new investigations are underway regarding the cocaine found in the White House during President Biden’s administration in 2023.

The case caused a political firestorm in the U.S. and continues to be a major talking point in right-wing rhetoric.

Cocaine in the White House

The discovery of a small quantity of cocaine in a storage area near the entrance to the West Wing of the White House in July 2023 triggered an intense backlash from Republicans. Then-presidential candidate Donald Trump claimed it was “highly unlikely” the drugs belonged to anyone other than Joe Biden or his son, Hunter Biden, despite the Biden family being out of Washington at the time.

The White House Press Secretary at the time called these accusations “incredibly irresponsible.” The initial investigation by the Secret Service did not identify any suspect.

Dan Bongino himself, without presenting concrete evidence, has claimed he’s been in contact with informants who suggested the fingerprint or DNA on the cocaine pouch might match someone from the president’s inner circle.

Bongino said he will receive weekly updates on the progress of the investigation, hinting that the FBI’s new leadership wants a more aggressive probe into the matter.
