Brutal beating of a worker in a garbage truck of the Municipality of Athens

Brutal beating of employee

Newsroom June 9 02:08

As reported by employees of the Municipality of Athens, it all happened on Niovis Street in Kypseli. During the process of removing a bin from a garbage truck, the worker asked the automobile that was “stuck” behind to leave a distance of a few meters away because they could not pull the bin.

At that moment, a young man got out of the car and tried to hit him by cursing. He managed to escape, but soon afterwards, the man attacked the other worker. Then, other men got out of the car and started kicking and punching him in the head.

Residents in the area called for immediate action, and in the meantime, the offenders disappeared.

The worker was rushed to Genimata Hospital, had tests, and was discharged the next morning. In the meantime, the management has initiated all necessary legal procedures to prosecute the perpetrators and stands by the employee.

This incident highlights the particularly difficult and often dangerous conditions under which employees of the Municipality of Athens in the cleaning sector are required to work. Apart from the adverse working conditions, they are often confronted with unacceptable behaviour and attacks, which makes their work even more painful.

This incident comes on the heels of a recent, equally serious incident where a green worker of the Municipality of Athens was attacked with a knife by a drug addict while performing his duties.
