A very high fire risk (risk category 4) is forecast tomorrow in many parts of the country due to high temperatures
In particular, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), for tomorrow, Wednesday 2 July, a very high fire risk (risk category 4) is predicted for the following areas:
Attica, Kythira, Argolida, Laconia, Corinthia, and southern Evia, as well as Crete, Lesvos, Psara, Ikaria, Samos, and Chios.
At the same time, a high level of risk (Category 3) is also predicted for many other areas of island and mainland Greece.
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the relevant government departments involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, to be on heightened civil protection preparedness in order to deal immediately with any fire incidents.
Suggestions to citizens
At the same time, the GGP recommends that citizens should be particularly careful and avoid actions in the countryside that can cause a fire through negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning debris, using sparking machinery such as circular saws, welding devices, using outdoor barbecues, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that during the fire season, burning of fields is prohibited.
