Weather: storms, strong winds and hail from Thursday – Meteorologists warn of increased risk of flooding

Rapid 48-hour weather change with a slight drop in temperature – Where you’ll need an umbrella today

Newsroom July 30 11:13

After the unbearable heat from the recent extreme heatwave, today started with a “breath” of coolness, as temperatures have dropped significantly across the country.

Winds remain strong in the Ionian and southern seas – reaching 5-6 Beaufort – while in the Aegean, especially in the Cyclades and Tinos, they are clearly weaker.

Where It Will Rain Today – Severe Weather from Thursday

Sunshine dominates today, with a few midday-afternoon clouds over the mainland, possibly producing light and very localized showers in Macedonia, mainly in Halkidiki and Eastern Macedonia.

Temperatures are falling, with maximum values around 35-36°C in the eastern mainland (Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece, Peloponnese, Central Macedonia). In the Ionian Islands and the Cyclades, temperatures do not exceed 30-32°C.

In Attica, the day starts sunny with mild winds. Local clouds are expected by afternoon with temperatures up to 35°C, and a northwesterly breeze in the Saronic Gulf reaching 5 Beaufort.

In Thessaloniki, the weather will generally be good, with a few local clouds in the afternoon, temporarily stronger winds early in the morning, and temperatures up to 34°C.

Thursday: Weather Changes Ahead

Tomorrow, Thursday, changes arrive with rain and thunderstorms over the mainland (mainly in Macedonia, Thessaly and the northwestern Aegean), persisting until the evening. Winds will strengthen, reaching 6 Beaufort in the Ionian and Aegean, and temperatures will drop slightly further – with maximums at 34-35°C.

On Friday, strong northerly winds are expected in the Aegean (up to 7 Beaufort), rain mainly in northern and central regions, and another small drop in temperatures to 33-34°C.

The weekend is expected to be typically summery, with sunshine, a few afternoon showers in the mainland mountains, and temperatures up to 36°C on Sunday. Northerly winds in the Aegean will remain up to 6 Beaufort.

Ziakopoulos’ Forecast – Where Severe Weather Will Hit from Tomorrow

On Thursday (31/7), conditions will be highly favorable for local showers and thunderstorms, mainly in central and northern Greece, where the phenomena may be locally intense. Winds will blow from the north at 4-6 Beaufort, and temperatures in central and northern areas will drop further in maximum values.

On Friday (1/8), local rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the mainland and the north-northwest Aegean. Winds in the Aegean will reach 7 Beaufort, and temperatures will not change significantly.

During the weekend (2-3/8), afternoon instability in mainland Greece will be generally limited. Winds will blow from the north at 4-5 Beaufort in the west and 6-7 Beaufort in the east, gradually weakening on Sunday. Temperatures will see a slight rise.

Marousakis’ Warning for Severe Weather

Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis posted about the weather in the coming days, noting that after the heatwave, we are heading into instability – with showers, rain, and northerly winds.
