Naxos: Mayor’s complaint about the legality of the barbed wire in Portara

Workers and officials of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades related to the installation of the fence, were brought to the local police station after the mayor complained about the legality of the work

The placement of barbed wire around the iconic monument of Portaras on Naxos to protect the archaeological site from damage and vandalism has provoked a reaction from residents and the island’s mayor.

More specifically, according to cyclades24.gr, the island’s mayor, Dimitris Lianos, has made an official complaint, raising questions about the legality of the procedures, as well as whether the procedures were followed by the bodies involved.

The Mayor’s complaint had immediate consequences, as the workers and members of the Ephorate of Cyclades Antiquities who were at the site, as well as other persons related to the installation of the fence, were taken to the Naxos Police Department for further control and preliminary questioning.
