An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Turkey at 19:53, and according to the initial estimates of the Euro-Mediterranean Institute, the epicenter was located near the city of Balıkesir, while the focal depth was calculated at 11 kilometers.

The quake was felt in the Eastern Aegean islands, particularly in Chios and Mytilene, as well as in Constantinople.

Seismologist Efthymis Lekkas spoke to protothema.gr about the earthquake, saying that “it was felt in Chios and Mytilene due to the distance, but it does not affect the Greek territory. This is an area of known seismic activity, but not on faults that could affect Greece.”
