Fire in Achaia: 550 cars burned at the Patras Customs Office

The outdoor area had been cleared of vegetation in June, in accordance with the relevant legislation

Newsroom August 13 01:46

The devastating wildfire in Achaia spared no vehicles stored at the Patras Customs Office facilities of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

According to initial estimates, 550 cars were completely destroyed — a number representing the vast majority of vehicles in the outdoor area. More than half of these had reached the end of their service life, meaning they could no longer be auctioned as regular vehicles.

It is noted that the outdoor space had been cleared of vegetation in June, in compliance with the law.

AADE Governor Giorgos Pitsilis has already instructed that, as soon as the temperature in the area drops to operational levels — it is currently extremely high due to the heat radiating from the burned metal — a full assessment of the damage will be carried out.
