SYRIZA enjoys the international recognition for its establishment as a critical factor in the political life of the country after winning in the European elections. However, SYRIZA concerns about two things: the feeling that it has reached the highest point of impact in relation to social and electoral appeal and its limited options for governmental alliances.
According to information, one of the first calls the president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras received after the European elections was from the office of the American President Barack Obama to congratulate him. The same information indicate that Mr.Tsipras received a similar call from the office of former President Bill Clinton.
It is obvious that winning in the European elections SYRIZA has gained even more attention internationally. Especially now that he won a battle of wider significance regarding the direction and policy of the EU. The international community recognizes now SYRIZA, as well as that Mr.Tsipras will be a determining factor for forming new correlations and trends in Europe. However, as far as internal affairs is concerned things are not so simple. SYRIZA won a battle, but the war is still on. At the first meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA after the European elections, Mr Tsipras talked about “encouraging results”, while it was evident that most members expected more from the elections.
That is why the demand for early elections is expressed carefully by SYRIZA without putting too much pressure on the government.
SYRIZA worries that the impression that SYRIZA has now reached the highest point of impact might be created. That the anger and rage of citizens are not expressed anymore through SYRIZA, but through different forms – such as abstention or new political combinations as To Potami – and that its programmatic plan and the alternative proposal for governance do not convince people.
