Illegal fuel ring sourced from Romania: 20 arrested Across 6 cities, hundreds of thousands of euros seized

With fuel from Romania, it appears that the “engine” of the fuel smuggling ring that unraveled by the Greek FBI, with police officers having made at least 20 arrests so far.

According to the latest information, police have identified a storage site in Sindos for transferring fuel from Romania, which was then being illegally trafficked.

According to the same information, the ring used solvents imported from Bulgaria and Romania to adulterate the fuel and channel it to the criminal network’s service stations.

  • A total of 20 arrests have been made:
  • 13 in Attica,
  • one in Volos,
  • two in Trikala,
  • three in Thessaloniki,
  • two in Igoumenitsa and
  • one in Sparta.

During the operations, police officers also located and confiscated hundreds of thousands of euros.

As protothema.gr wrote earlier, the arrested men are expected to be charged with fuel smuggling, tax evasion and defrauding drivers as they were putting less fuel in their cars than what was indicated on the pumps.

According to the same information, software to interfere with the input-output systems was found at several of the stations inspected.
