French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed former Armed Forces Minister Sebastian Le Corneille as prime minister to replace the resigned François Bayrou, BFM television channel reported.

Lecorni thus becomes France’s fifth prime minister in less than two years.

Bayrou’s successor faces the difficult task of getting the budget approved by parliament, where the government has so far lacked a majority.
