Government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis was critical on Saturday of the conservative New Democracy party’s comments on the government’s tax-evasion efforts following a letter by the opposition finance minister to Greece’s EU partners.

“Those who humiliated the country internationally by serving every kind of interest and passing the tax burden onto the usual beasts of burden should keep quiet. They have received enough condemnation from society already,” said Sakellaridis, adding that the government would do all it can to combat tax evasion, closing gaps opened up by the previous government. He said that how ridiculous each measure is will be judged by the results.
