Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is in Egypt where he will attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza today at 19:00, at the invitation of the country’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Tomorrow, on Sunday, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel to Nicosia, where he will attend and deliver the commemorative speech at the 12th annual memorial service of the former President of the Republic of Cyprus and founder of the Democratic Rally, Glafkos Clerides.

According to his schedule, on Monday, at 11:30, the Prime Minister will meet with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangell at the Maximos Mansion.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister attended the enthronement ceremony of the new Abbot of the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine of Sinai, the new Archbishop of Sinai, Faran and Raitho, Mr. Simeon.

The presence of the Prime Minister at the enthronement ceremony of the new Archbishop sent a strong message for the preservation of the centuries-old unchanged devotional character of the Monastery as a beacon of Orthodoxy with a global radiance.

In his response, Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent to the members of the Sinaitic Brotherhood the message that Greece is present and their helper for the preservation in eternity of the special and unique status bequeathed to us by our ancestors. He described as a “national duty” and our reasonable duty any assistance to those who keep our traditions in the heart of the Sinai Peninsula.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Greek and Egyptian states have paved the way to preserve in perpetuity the cultic character of the monastery, its rights, and the protection of the monks. He also added that the agreed guidelines and principles will certainly be brought to the attention of the Sinaitic Brotherhood, which will have the final say.
