Metal detectors at the entrance to the church for Evangelia Fragkiadaki’s funeral – Police everywhere and searches with dogs

Silent grief and heightened security measures at the funeral – The burial will take place at the Alikianos cemetery, next to her husband, who passed away two years ago

Newsroom November 4 01:58

Unprecedented security measures, including metal detectors, have been implemented by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) for the funeral of 56-year-old Evangelia Fragkiadaki, who was killed in the bloody clash in Vorizia, to eliminate any possibility of armed individuals entering.

At the same time, an explosives detection dog searched both the churchyard and the interior of the church to ensure that the ceremony would proceed without incident.

Meanwhile, dozens of police officers have been stationed since early morning around the perimeter of the church and on the surrounding village streets.

The body of the 56-year-old, who worked as a nurse at Chania Hospital, was transferred at noon to the Holy Cross Church, where a large crowd has already gathered to bid her farewell.

The farewell to the 56-year-old is taking place amid silent mourning, with her relatives calling for an end to the cycle of bloodshed and a closure to a vendetta that has shaken the entire island of Crete.

The burial will take place at the Alikianos cemetery, next to her husband, who passed away two years ago.

As protothema.gr reported earlier, the death of 56-year-old Evangelia Fountelaki is clearly classified as “homicide.”

The document, signed by the deputy head of the Forensic Service of Crete, Eleni Krasanaki, explicitly states that the cause of death was “chest injuries from a firearm shot,” while the type of death is identified as “homicide.”

This report fully confirms the investigative reporting by protothema.gr, which revealed the testimony of relatives who from the outset insisted that the woman did not die from a heart attack, as initially circulated, but was shot during the deadly clash in Vorizia.
