“Fantastic meeting with Mitsotakis, Greece is a vital partner” writes Kimberly Guilfoyle after talks at Maximos

The two sides confirmed the momentum in Greek–US relations, which, as the Prime Minister stressed, are “at historic highs”

US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle referred to a “fantastic meeting” in a social media post, commenting on her discussion with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion on Wednesday morning.

As she writes, the Trump administration is focused on delivering results, “building alliances and strengthening our security, expanding opportunity and advancing prosperity.” Guilfoyle concludes saying that Greece is leading with courage and is a vital partner in that effort. “Looking forward to what the future holds for our two nations,” the US ambassador notes.

Earlier, the meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle took place at Maximos in a very warm atmosphere. The two sides confirmed the dynamic of Greek–American relations, which, as the Prime Minister underlined, are “at historic highs”, with prospects for further deepening in energy, investment, security and regional cooperation.

In the brief remarks in front of cameras, Mr Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s role as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and a critical hub for energy source diversification, while making special reference to the attraction of US tech companies to Greece.

As the Prime Minister characteristically stated: “We are very happy to see you and you come at a time when Greek-American relations are at historic highs — without this meaning we cannot improve them further. There is a wide agenda, at a time when Greece is a pillar of regional stability and a US ally.”

The Prime Minister also referred — in the context of the launch of the 6th Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) in Athens — to the energy dimension and US investment: “Greece is a gateway for liquefied natural gas, a strategic infrastructure for our country and the US. At the same time, there is a broad field of cooperation for attracting more American investments, especially in the tech sector, as well as for strengthening the ties between our societies. Next year you will celebrate 250 years since the Declaration of Independence and it is an important moment for our shared ideals.”

For her part, Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle spoke warmly about Greece and the strategic relationship with the United States, highlighting the historic moment and Athens’ role as the birthplace of Democracy: “It is an honor and a privilege to be in your country, in Athens, the birthplace of Democracy. Next year we will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and major, historic initiatives have been planned. The 3+1 scheme (Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the US) is a testament to this strategic cooperation.”

The US ambassador also pointed to the large American delegation present in Athens for the Summit, stressing the depth of the relationship: “All the cabinet secretaries are here and we are excited about the progress in political and economic cooperation, in trade, in development and in security. We are moving at high speed so that our relations reach new heights, with a focus on economic progress, reducing unemployment, national security, sovereignty and border protection.”

Earlier, Kimberly Guilfoyle arrived exactly at 10:00 for her scheduled meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
