In response to the government’s latest claims over this year’s fiscal targets, New Democracy party spokesman Kostas Karagounis launched a stinging attack against the SYRIZA government on Monday.

“They have some nerve, blaming the former government for a lack of funds,” he charged.

Furthermore, the ND spokesman noted that as of Dec. 31, 2014, the Greek state’s available funds reached 2.574 billion euros, 400 million more than the corresponding figure in 2013, while at the same time most debts owed by the state to third parties (individual taxpayers, VAT refunds, payments to contractors etc) were paid.

“There were no empty pension funds or any kind of uncertainty during PM Samaras’ tenure. Nor was there any concern about whether to pay pensions or salaries,” he stressed.
