Weather: Northerly winds strengthen and rain subsides – Storms until midday in the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese

Heavy rainfall was recorded yesterday in the west and the Peloponnese – rainfall in Arcadia reached nearly 100 mm

The day begins with locally intense phenomena in the northeast and the eastern Aegean; however, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), weather conditions will gradually improve from midday onwards, as northerly winds strengthen and temperatures drop.

Based on the HNMS emergency weather bulletin, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Thrace during the early morning hours, then from early morning until midday across the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese. Gradually, conditions will improve and clearer weather will prevail over most parts of the country.

In the rest of mainland Greece, the day will feature intervals of sunshine with a few scattered clouds, mainly in the east. Winds will blow from the north, strengthening to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean, bringing lower temperatures and a cool feel, especially during the morning and evening.

Temperatures will range between 8–18°C in the north, 10–20°C in central regions, and 13–22°C in the south. In Athens, mostly sunny skies are expected with strong northerly winds up to 6 Beaufort and temperatures from 12–21°C. Thessaloniki will see mostly fair weather with a few clouds and temperatures from 10–19°C.

Toward the end of the week, northern winds will persist across the country, with temperatures close to seasonal averages. Rainfall will decrease significantly, bringing a more stable autumn pattern.

Rainfall in Arcadia Reaches 100 mm
Rain and locally strong thunderstorms occurred on Monday, 10 November, mainly in the western regions and mountainous areas of the Peloponnese, where significant rainfall totals were recorded.

According to the automatic weather station network of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, high rainfall amounts were measured in western areas and the Peloponnese highlands. The highest recorded total by 18:20 local time was 99.8 mm at Psathi, Megalopolis (Arcadia).

Intervals of increased cloudiness are expected, with rain and local thunderstorms in the morning hours over the eastern Aegean islands, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades, Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and possibly Crete. In the eastern Aegean and Thrace, storms will be locally intense and may be accompanied by hail. Elsewhere, a few clouds will appear, temporarily thicker at times, with a chance of light local showers in northern mountainous areas during midday and afternoon. Visibility will be locally limited overnight and early morning, especially in central and northern mainland regions.

  • Northern Greece: 10–19°C (Western Macedonia: 3–16°C)
  • Central & Southern Greece: 12–22°C
  • Western Greece: 11–18°C (Epirus: 7–14°C)
  • Cyclades & Crete: 17–21°C
  • Eastern Aegean & Dodecanese: 18–22°C

Winds:

  • Aegean: west–northwest, light to moderate (3–5 Beaufort), shifting to northerly by afternoon.
  • Ionian: northwest, 3–4 Beaufort; Corinthian Gulf: moderate to strong, 5–6 Beaufort (gusts up to 60 km/h).

Attica (Athens)
Sunny with few clouds, denser in the east and north during morning hours. Temperature: 14–22°C. Winds light to moderate (NW 4 Beaufort).

Thessaloniki
Mostly sunny with a few clouds and locally limited visibility in early morning and night. Temperature: 13–17°C. Winds NW, light to temporarily moderate (4–5 Beaufort).

Wednesday, 12 November
In the west, thin clouds becoming generally clear. Elsewhere, intermittent clouds with light showers until midday in Eastern Macedonia–Thrace, northern Aegean islands, Sporades, and Evia, and from midday in Eastern Sterea, the Cyclades, and Crete. Visibility locally limited morning and evening.
Winds: north 3–5 Beaufort.
Temperatures slightly lower: 16–18°C north, 19–21°C elsewhere (up to 22°C in Crete and Dodecanese).

Thursday, 13 November
Clouds and local showers in the east and south, isolated storms early in Crete and later over the north and central Aegean, gradually intensifying. Elsewhere partly cloudy. Visibility locally limited in the morning.
Winds: north 3–5 Beaufort, locally 6–7 Beaufort in the Aegean.
Temperature: slight further drop, mainly in the east.

Friday, 14 November
Cloudy in east and south with local rain and scattered storms, easing by night in southern areas. Elsewhere partly cloudy.
Winds: north, 3–5 Beaufort west; 6–7, possibly 8 Beaufort in the Aegean, gradually weakening.
Temperature: slight rise.

Saturday, 15 November
A few local clouds. Visibility locally limited morning and evening.
Winds: initially northerly, later westerly, 3–4 Beaufort (south 5–6).
Temperature: no significant change.
