What preceded
“Haris, I want you to make it easy for me and give me your resignation” – “Yannis, I will answer to you tomorrow morning at 11”. This was the dialogue between the Finance Minister, Yannis Stournaras, and the General Secretary of Public Revenue, Haris Theoharis, when Mr Stournaras called him in his office.
The two men discussed for a long time and Mr. Stournaras directly requested the resignation of Mr Theoharis, blaming him for the circulars issued before the elections. For example, he blamed Mr Theoharis for issuing a circular according to which the foreign owners of Greek bonds will have to pay taxes. But, after the turmoil created by this circular, the decision was called off.
They will talk on the phone at 11am and close associates of Mr. Theoharis believe that under these circumstances it is difficult the General Secretary not to resign.
According to information, Brussels and Troika have been informed about the removal of Secretary General, while the change in leadership of the Secretariat will be accompanied by other developments, too.
