In a statement issued on Thursday, the terrorist Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack on Tunisia’s national museum, which caused the death of 23 people, including many tourists.
Two gunmen, dressed in military-style attire, stormed the Bardo museum in Tunis on Wednesday, where they took around 30 hostages. The hostage situation ended with a raid by security forces, during which the two assailants were killed.
According to foreign press reports, the statement was published on a forum that acts as mouthpiece for the group and described yesterday’s attack in Tunisia as a “blessed invasion of one of the dens of infidels and vice in Muslim Tunisia.”
