Tsipras: No problem with liquidity in Greek economy, banks

The press conference ended at approximately 16.45 (Athens time)

Newsroom March 20 03:55

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras put on a “happy face” in Brussels on Friday, telling reporters at a televised press conference that there is absolutely no problem with liquidity in the Greek economy or banking sector.

The Greek PM spoke about the latest developments on the Greek issue, characterizing last night’s meeting with six EU leaders and the EU summit in general as “positive” for Greece. Tsipras underlined that there won’t be a review of the previous bailout program and that no further “recessionary measures” will be implemented.

He underlined that there was a common understanding on the summit and that confidence was restored between Greece and its international creditors. Moreover, he stressed that the February agreement is now back on track, which means that Greece can now proceed fast with reforms.

According to Tsipras, German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed during their meeting on Thursday evening that the commitments of the previous government are no longer valid.

He also lashed out against who he claimed are “trying to undermine the Feb. 20 agrement”, saying that their attempt to terrorize the Greek people will not be tolerated.
