A strong hailstorm struck Mytilene and many areas of Lesvos at around 2 p.m., causing major problems on roads and in businesses

According to Mytilene’s Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection, Nikos Karasavvas, the intense hailstorm caused drains to clog and led to rapid water accumulation, as reported by the local website stonisi.gr.

As a result, shops on Ermou Street flooded, at a time when market traffic was already high due to Black Friday. Many shoppers struggled to move around, while store owners rushed to protect their businesses.

Difficulties for Students

The sudden hailstorm also created problems at schools in Mytilene, as it coincided with dismissal time. Parents and students faced slippery roads, reduced visibility, and stagnant water. In some areas, vehicle lines formed, while in others cars were unable to continue because of accumulated hail.

Problems in Western Lesvos

Western Lesvos was also hit, especially the areas of Kalloni, Filia, and Skalohori. There is particular concern for the Tsiknias River in Kalloni, where the water level has reached two meters.
