Sources from the Greek Ministry of Defense commented on statements made earlier today by a spokesperson for the Turkish Ministry of Defense, who said that Ankara is monitoring “closely and carefully all developments in our region, including the military activities of our neighboring country, Greece,” and who claimed that Turkey does not pose a threat to anyone who does not threaten it, while accusing Nikos Dendias of using “rhetoric that escalates tensions.”

As they emphasized, “Greece is obliged to maintain its deterrent capability, doing what is self-evident for its protection in a constantly changing geopolitical environment. It is obvious that this cannot be interpreted as a ‘provocation’ by anyone.”

They added, “It is also not possible to ignore the fact that an explicit threat (Casus Belli) exists against Greece,” and noted that “Greece does not threaten anyone. Its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, to International Law, and to the Law of the Sea is well known to all.”
