New York City woke up Sunday to a wintry scene as Central Park was covered in a thick layer of snow, with trees and trails dressed in white after the first heavy snowfall of the season.

Snow began falling overnight across the city, with its intensity increasing in the early hours of Sunday morning before gradually beginning to taper off from the west into the middle of the day.

The snowfall was particularly noticeable in a city that has recorded lower-than-normal snow levels in recent years.
