Fire rages at a plastics factory in Menidi: 112 alert sounded in the area (video-photos)

At the scene, 19 fire engines with 42 firefighters are operating – “They told us it will take many hours,” said the deputy mayor

Newsroom January 19 07:29

The fire that broke out in the early hours of Monday (19/1) at a plastics factory in Menidi is still fully ongoing, with the blaze quickly growing to large proportions due to the flammable materials inside the facility. The 112 emergency alert system was activated in the area so that residents could protect themselves from the smoke.

Six fire engines with 22 firefighters, as well as a special aerial ladder vehicle, rushed immediately to the scene, while water tanker trucks from local authorities also assisted in the firefighting effort. Shortly afterward, the forces were reinforced, and there are now 42 firefighters operating with 19 vehicles.

Firefighters are making superhuman efforts to bring the fire under control, in order to prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.

A deputy mayor told SKAI that two other businesses have also suffered damage, one of them dealing in fabrics.
