Greece was amongst the top countries where fans of the hugely successful Game of Thrones series rushed to download the first four leaked episodes of the new season.

News that the first four episodes of the fifth season were available in pirated form over the Internet caused millions of fans to use their PCs to watch the versions.

According to the torrentfreak website, the initial news generated more than 100,000 downloads in the first three hours since the leak was reported.

“The copies were first spotted on the private torrent tracker IPT, but they soon made their way to more public sites such as The Pirate Bay, RARBG and KickassTorrents,” the website reported.

HBO had hoped to release the fifth season of Game of Thrones simultaneously in 170 countries around the world in order to minimize the risk of leaks and online piracy – something that obviously wasn’t very … successful.

The leaked episodes were posted online in standard-definition (SD) quality, rather than the usual HD quality.
