The phone calls regarding the reshuffle have started. According to information released so far, Thanassis Tsaftaris, Adonis Georgiadis, Kostas Hatzidakis, Panos Panagiotopoulos, Simos Kedikoglou, Yannis Mihalakis and Theodoros Karaoglou are left out of the new cabinet.
Mr. Arvanitopoulos is to leave the Ministry of Education. Chrysichoidis and Papadopoulos will remain at the Ministry of Infrastructure
The phone calls are made by the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras himself and by the Minister of State Dimitris Stamatis.
Meanwhile, so far, it is certain that Mr. Yannis Stournaras is to leave the Ministry of Finance to become Bank of Greece governor. Mr. Christos Staikouras will remain as Deputy Minister, while it is not known whether Mr. George Mavraganis will also remain in the Ministry or moved to another post. There were rumors that Mr. Thanassis Skordas was to replace him.
According to reports, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, Mr. Nikos Dendias and Mr. Makis Voridis are no longer being considered for the post of FinMin, while in the last few hours there are rumors of Mrs. N. Tzavella replacing Mr. Stournaras. The possibility of Prime Minister becoming the new Finance Minister is also ruled out, whereas the information according to which Mr Nikolas Economides, Professor at the University Stern U.S, will be appointed Finance Minister was refuted.
It is also certain that Mr Evangelos Venizelos will remain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Dimitris Avramopoulos at the Ministry of National Defense, Mrs Olga Kefalogianni at the Ministry of Tourism and Mr. Yannis Maniatis at the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change. Mr. Andreas Loverdos has also secured a place in the new cabinet.
According to sources, Minister of Interior Yannis Michelakis, Minister of Labour Yannis Vroutsis and Minister of Justice Haralampos Athanasiou will be removed from office. Some of them will be left out of the new cabinet while others will be offered new posts.
In any case, the success of the reshuffle will be judged primarily on the new Minister of Finance. The Prime Minister wants to mark the continued progress of the country towards growth, without giving up the structural changes, something that would bring him in conflict with the Troika and the European partners.
At the same time, he wants to defuse the social discontent recorded in recent elections and also to keep the balance between New Democracy and PASOK.
