Greece and Australia will be conducting joint naval exercises in April and May on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of Anzac (The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps)Day. The centenary marks 100 years since Australian and New Zealand forces participated in World War I and the Gallipoli campaign that began in April 1915.

The Hellenic Navy warship Kountouriotis and the Royal Australian Navy ships “HMAS Success” and “HMAS Anzac” will participate in the joint exercises.

The crew of the “HMAS Anzac” will observe activities at the Souda base in Crete on Monday and also participate in another exercise taking place in the south-western Aegean on May 5.

Memorial ceremonies will be held on the isle of Limnos where the “HMAS Success” and its 235-membered crew will observe the special role that the island played. The ship will be open to the public on April 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
