Newsroom February 16 11:47

At this moment, a special ceremony is underway for the signing of four concession contracts between the Greek State and the Chevron–HELLENIQ ENERGY consortium, marking a new chapter in the utilization of domestic hydrocarbons.

The signing ceremony took place at the Maximos Mansion, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The Greek State is represented by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, and the CEO of the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company, Aristophanes Stefatos.

On behalf of the concessionaires, the contracts were signed by Gavin Lewis, Vice President of Chevron, and Andreas Siamisis, CEO of HELLENIQ ENERGY. Representing the Greek State were Minister Stavros Papastavrou and CEO Aristophanes Stefatos.

Before the signing, statements were made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Environment Minister Stavros Papastavrou, U.S. Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle, Gavin Lewis on behalf of Chevron, and Andreas Siamisis, CEO of HELLENIQ ENERGY.

Following the ceremony at Maximos Mansion, an event is scheduled at the Acropolis Museum, where the main pillars of the research program and the next steps will be presented.

Next Steps

After the signing, the contracts will be swiftly submitted to Parliament for ratification. The aim is to activate the research program, preceded by approval of the Environmental Study, expected in the second half of 2026.

The concessions cover the areas “South Peloponnese,” “A2,” as well as the offshore blocks “South of Crete I” and “South of Crete II,” where the consortium has already been selected as the preferred investor. This development comes less than a year after the acceleration of government contacts with major U.S. energy giants to restart exploration and attract investment in the Greek maritime sector.
