Discover the wonderfully delicious mainland of Greece

"It is strange how many British holidaymakers make a beeline for the Greek islands and ignore the attractions of the mainland", Express site says.

Newsroom June 10 12:25

As the summer approaches, articles that praise the Greek islands abound on the internet. We often read about their pristine beaches, their vibrant nightlife and their interesting cultural scene. Greek islands are definitely the “stars” of the summer season.

However, an article published recently on British Express Site (Home of the Daily and Sunday Express newspapers) focuses primarily on the mainland of Greece. In fact, the columnist notes that it finds it strange how many British holidaymakers make a beeline for the Greek islands and ignore the attractions of the mainland.

More specifically, the article refers to the southernmost part of mainland Greece, that is home to the greatest concentration of such ancient classical sites as Sparta and Olympus.

As the article states, it also runs the full gamut of landscapes, from soaring mountain ranges and alpine forests to vineyard-strewn hillsides and horseshoe bays with white sand beaches.

The columnist had the chance to spent several days with his family exploring the coastline from their base in the picturesque resort of Tolon, popular with weekending Athenians and home to a long stretch of sandy beach.

The article also refers to the harbourfront town of Nafplio, the first capital city of modern Greece, which is known for its labyrinth of marblepaved streets, Venetian architecture and dramatic clifftop fortress.

Last but not least, the article mentions the splendours of Epidavros, a remarkably preserved ancient Greek theatre.
Dating from 400BC, it is still used for performances. The columnist had the chance to experience its still amazing acoustics first-hand when a “choir” of tourists broke into song as he sat enjoying the stunning views.
