Flights at Chios Airport will be served by propeller aircraft with a limited number of passenger seats starting the evening of Thursday, March 12, 2026, due to runway expansion and infrastructure upgrade works.

According to the HCAA, the airport’s operation will temporarily change from March 12. During the first phase of the works, the airport will remain “operational, serving propeller aircraft and a limited number of passengers due to the necessary safety restrictions.”

A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has already been issued for the first phase of the technical works, while further notices will follow for the second and third phases, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

The ongoing works include a northern extension of the runway, which currently has a length of 1,511 meters. Once completed, the runway will be 1,799 meters long. These works will further enhance the airport’s operational safety and are aimed at accommodating larger types of aircraft, benefiting both passengers and the local economy.
