The search operation for the 34-year-old diver, who became trapped during a dive at a particularly dangerous underwater spot in Limanakia Vouliagmenis, is still ongoing.

As reported since yesterday, the man is a pilot and a highly experienced diver who had gone to the area with another person for a dive.

The location is very close to the shore and includes a well-known underwater “shaft” about 28 meters deep, with geological features resembling underwater caves, as well as strong underground currents that make access extremely difficult.

The incident occurred yesterday at noon, when the accompanying diver managed to return to the surface alone and immediately alerted authorities, expressing concern that the 34-year-old had likely become trapped inside the underwater formation.

A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched immediately by the Hellenic Coast Guard, involving a vessel, divers from the Underwater Missions Unit, and specialized cave divers from private teams.

Conditions at the site are described as extremely challenging due to the depth and the strong currents beneath the surface.

According to the Hellenic Rescue Team, the missing diver had specialized equipment providing additional oxygen for approximately 3 to 5 hours, as well as an underwater scooter used to facilitate movement during dives.

Search efforts resumed today at first light and are continuing intensively.
