The weather is changing from the west, with showers, thunderstorms and a drop in temperature as the barometric low “DEBORAH” affects the country. Meteorologists warn of temporary strong weather, while forecasters point to a possible new intense deterioration in early April with features more suggestive of winter than spring.
According to meteorologist Thodoros Kolydas, the low “DEBORAH” requires caution, as it may cause thunderstorms even in Attica. As he says, based on the ENS meteogram for Athens, on Friday, March 27, the maximum possible precipitation over six hours is estimated at 10 to 14 mm, with the most likely scenario ranging between 2 and 6 mm. Of particular interest is Wednesday 1 April, when forecast data show a significant deterioration, with estimated rainfall of 25 to 35 mm in six hours, while on Thursday 2 April heavy rainfall is not excluded in some scenarios.
The change in weather is expected to gradually extend to most parts of the country through the weekend, with showers, thunderstorms and snowfall in the mountains. Colder air masses from northwestern Europe are expected to move towards the Mediterranean, leading to a drop in temperatures below normal for the season. A slight rise in temperature may occur on Sunday due to southwesterly winds, but overall the start of April looks to have a more wintry character.
In fact, it is possible that in some lowland areas of the mainland the temperature may drop below freezing in some places during the morning hours. Winds will gradually shift to north to northwest, enhancing the feeling of cold especially at night and early in the morning.

For his part, meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias notes that the highest rainfall levels in the next 48 hours are expected in three zones of the country. The first is western Greece, where the phenomena will occur from the early hours of Friday morning. The second zone includes Thrace and the northern and eastern Aegean Sea, with a peak from Saturday noon to Sunday morning. The third zone is located in Crete, the southern Cyclades and the Dodecanese, where the phenomena will occur from Saturday to Sunday morning.
For Attica, according to him, showers are expected on Friday from noon to afternoon, but without particularly intense phenomena. As he points out, if the forecast data are confirmed, strong bad weather with winter characteristics is expected from Wednesday, April 1.
The available forecast data converge on the fact that the first ten days of April may be characterized by increased instability, frequent rain, low temperatures and snowfall mainly in the mountains, creating a setting that is far from the usual spring data.
