The appointment of Yannis Stournaras as Governor of the Bank of Greece is officially confirmed, since the meeting of the General Board of the Central Bank is completed and the Board endorsed the decision.
However, Mr Stournaras is not in Athens, but in Berlin. Before the announcement of the reshuffle, Mr Stournaras had scheduled a meeting with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin.
Meanwhile, shortly after the official announcement of the leadership succession at the Bank of Greece, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said: “Following the proposal of the General Board of the Bank of Greece to the Council of Ministers to appoint Yannis Stournaras new governor of the Bank of Greece, I would like to thank the governor Giorgos Provopoulos for his work during the past years.
