Police officers arrested 20 individuals in areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, against whom fourteen separate case files were formed for violations of legislation on addictive substances and, in some cases, weapons offenses.
More specifically, the arrests were carried out between April 4 and April 13 by officers from the Police Directorates of Orestiada, Alexandroupoli, Rodopi, Xanthi, and Drama:
In the first case, on the morning of April 7 in the wider Alexandroupoli area, police arrested three Greek nationals. During a search of two of their homes, with the assistance of the drug-detection police dog “LAIKA,” officers found and seized two nylon packages containing cocaine with a total weight of 9 grams, a quantity of unprocessed cannabis weighing 4.8 grams, one cannabis cigarette, one air pistol with a magazine and holster, metal pellets, one plastic grinder, one precision electronic scale, and €255 in cash.
In the second case, on the afternoon of April 10 in an area of Drama, police arrested two Greek nationals after finding in their possession a nylon package of cocaine weighing 16.62 grams, €300 in cash, and two mobile phones, all of which were seized.
In the third case, at noon at the Xanthi Pre-Removal Detention Center, police arrested a foreign national after, during a search of a parcel addressed to him, they discovered two nylon packages containing unprocessed cannabis with a total weight of 42 grams.
Additionally, in 11 more cases during the same period, police conducted checks during which they arrested three Greek nationals in areas of Orestiada and Alexandroupoli, six Greek nationals in areas of Rodopi, two Greek nationals and one foreign national in areas of Drama, and one Greek national and one foreign national in areas of Xanthi. In total, during searches of two homes and personal checks, they found and seized, among other things, small quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, unprocessed and synthetic cannabis, and the drug known as “bonsai,” two cannabis cigarettes, three grinders, one narcotic pill, and one metal knuckle-duster.
The case files were submitted to the competent prosecutors, while the preliminary investigations were carried out by the Sub-Directorates for Crime Prosecution and Investigation of Orestiada and Alexandroupoli, as well as the Crime Prosecution and Investigation Departments of Drama, Komotini, and Xanthi.
