U.S. President Donald Trump has been the target of multiple assassination attempts, security incidents, and violent threats throughout his political career, from campaign rallies to official events.
Concern over his security intensified again on Saturday, April 25, when he and First Lady Melania Trump were urgently escorted out of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner following a security incident. The event reignited concerns about his protection, roughly two years after a confirmed assassination attempt and amid growing fears of political violence in the United States.
Below is a record of the most significant confirmed attempts and serious security incidents involving Trump.
April 25, 2026: Gunfire at journalists’ dinner
Trump and Melania were immediately evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington when loud noises and a security incident caused panic among attendees.
Speaking after the event, Trump said that a man “armed with multiple weapons” attempted to pass a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel but was arrested by police officers. A Secret Service agent was injured by gunfire but was saved by his bulletproof vest.
“This is not the first time in recent years that our democracy has been attacked by a would-be assassin,” Donald Trump said to reporters after the incident. Although he acknowledged the rising threats, he said he does not intend to reduce his public appearances.
“We are not going to let anyone take control of our society,” he said, adding: “We are not going to cancel activities, because we cannot do that.” He also announced that the White House Correspondents’ dinner will be held again soon. Authorities have not officially classified the incident as an assassination attempt.

September 2024: Threat at Florida golf course
Agents prevented what the FBI described as a potential assassination attempt while Trump was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Officers discovered an armed man hiding in bushes and opened fire before he could approach the former president. The attacker, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by police gunfire.
