NASA astronomers used the Hubble telescope to record a rare phenomenon: A star consuming another nearby star and releasing a pan-shaped giant disk of gases.

The “cannibalistic” star was discovered a few decades ago and was dubbed “Nasty 1” due to its name (NaSt1) and its unusual behavior.

The Wolf-Rayet type star, a relatively uncommon space object with an atmosphere comprised of Helium and not Hydrogen, has giant mass, are particularly bright and constantly “blow” their external atmosphere to outer space as an astral wind.

Nasty1 is even more special since it is surrounded by a giant disc of gases, shaped like a pan, with a diameter of 4.5 Trillion Kilometers.

Scientists believe that the disc has been formed around another Wolf-Rayet, “invisible” accompanying star which was revolving around a common mass center with Nasty, and was at some point devoured by it.
