A great music festival is taking place between the 29th and 31st of May, 2015. For three days, Mediterranean sounds will be heard in Dr. Hock’s Konservatorium, from three different music bands and musicians from seven different countries.

The “Mediterranean Music Festival 2015” is operating under the auspices of the Deutsche UNESCO- Kommission e.V. and is taking place in Frankfurt, through the Polytropon-V. Chatzivassios organization, in close cooperation with the Greek Community of Frankfurt-Essen, the Greek Scientists Club of Frankfurt, and the German-Hellenic Frankfurt Company.

The Artistic Director is Kanun solist player Alkis Zopoglou  and his ensemble Kontrabando, who had the idea for the festival and carried it out with great success last y ear in Zurich. The Mediterranean Music Festival 2015 will be taking place in three more European cities: Zurich, Berne, and Goteborg.

The particular Mediterranean musical instruments dominate in their unusual way in the musical language of the area. 11 musicians from 7 different countries and cultures will communicate through music.

“Ensemble Constantinople – From Versailles to Top Kapi”

The “Constantinople” ensemble from Canada (comprised of two Iranians, a Turkish woman and a French musician) combines various but harmonic musical traditions through excellent compositions and live improvisations.

Saturday, 30th of May 2015 – 20.00 Local – Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium

“Contrabando feat. Haig Yazdjian”

Kanun solist Alkis Zopoglou and his “Contrabando” meet the Armenian-descended Syrian, oud solist Haig Yzdjian for a journey through traditional sounds of Greece and Anatolia, including their own marvelous compositions.

Sunday, 31st of May 2015 – 19.00 Local – Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium

“G. Georgoupoulos – Bouzouki in the 21st century”.

Bouzouki solist G. Georgopoulos moves around the musical globe at the same time as exploring traditional Greek sounds. He also plays Django Reinhardt, Astor Piazzolla and Al Di Meola with his instrument.

The Mediterranean Music Festival organizers have been active in the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main region. They bring the music of the Mediterranean to the heart of Europe.
