New information is coming to light regarding the violent attack against a businessman of Pakistani origin in Patisia, an incident that caused a strong police response and led to the arrest of three individuals after a chase.
According to police sources, one of the arrested individuals is already well known to the authorities, as he had been involved in serious cases of violence and delinquency in the past. He is the 30-year-old who, in October 2022, had attacked businessman Giannis Markou with a knife outside a roadside snack stand in Varybobi, stabbing him 17 times after a dispute over queueing.
The 2022 Varybobi attack
The bloody incident took place in the early hours of October 28, 2022. The then 26-year-old attacker and the 60-year-old businessman were waiting in line at a snack stand in Varybobi when a dispute broke out between them.
According to reports at the time, the young man attempted to cut in front of the businessman, causing a heated verbal exchange and pushing. Within seconds, the situation escalated out of control, with the attacker pulling out a knife and stabbing Giannis Markou 17 times.
The incident was captured by CCTV cameras of the snack stand, which recorded the attack frame by frame, confirming its severity.
Two days later, after the automatic arrest period had passed, the attacker appeared at the Kifissia Security Department accompanied by his lawyer and surrendered to the authorities.
Involvement in other cases
The 30-year-old had also previously come to the attention of authorities and had been arrested in May 2021 for drug-related offenses.
Information about his alleged involvement in the recent violent incident in Patisia is increasing concern among authorities regarding his continued criminal activity.
Giannis Markou’s stance
Also of particular interest is the stance taken by businessman Giannis Markou toward the attacker who almost cost him his life.
According to what he stated in an interview with Proto Thema, during the trial he asked for leniency for the young man, as he believed he had sincerely regretted his actions and deserved a second chance in life.
However, the later course of the 30-year-old’s life and his involvement in new serious cases appear to contradict hopes that he had abandoned criminal behavior.
