New evidence has emerged in the investigation into the deaths of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son in Longos, Aegio, as police are now focusing on findings discovered in the possession of a 65-year-old Italian man, who remains the main suspect in the case.
Specifically, according to updated information, police found a shirt belonging to the 65-year-old that appeared to have been recently washed. Despite being washed, a stain is visible on the fabric, which is under examination as there are indications it may be a trace of blood.
At the same time, investigators noted that the 65-year-old had scratches on his hands, a detail also being assessed as part of the investigation. According to the same sources, during his detention and questioning he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The man has not confessed to anything and continues to deny any involvement in the case. From the outset, he has claimed that he woke up and found his partner and her son dead inside the house, and then sought help from a neighbor, who alerted the authorities.
The body of the 26-year-old was found on his bed. According to current findings, he had suffered a head injury from an air gun (Flobert rifle) and multiple stab wounds to the body. His mother was found dead near the entrance of the room. The forensic examiner determined that she had both sharp-force injuries and defensive wounds, indicating she struggled with the attacker before losing her life.
Based on these findings, investigators believe the perpetrator first shot the 26-year-old in the head with an air gun and then stabbed him to death. The mother likely heard the commotion, went to see what was happening, and was then fatally attacked.
During a search of the scene, police found an air gun and a knife hidden inside a flower pot in the yard of the house. Both items have been seized and are being examined in forensic laboratories.
