A new MARC poll gives Greece’s ruling New Democracy a 14-point lead, according to findings presented on ANT1’s main evening news bulletin with Nikos Hatzinikolaou. New Democracy stands at 30.5% in the vote estimate, while the Greek Left Alliance (ELAS), led by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras, is in second place with 16.5%.
According to the poll, PASOK, Greece’s centre-left socialist party, is battling for third place with Elpida, the party led by Maria Karystianou, with both on 10.5%. Greek Solution has fallen to 7%, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) is at 6.5%, and Course of Freedom stands at 5.3%. All other parties are below the 3% parliamentary threshold, with SYRIZA now down to 1.2%.
In voting intention, New Democracy (ND) is first with 26.8%, followed by Tsipras’s ELAS on 14.3%. PASOK and Elpida are tied for third place.
Asked who they consider best suited to be prime minister, respondents placed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis first with 30.2%, followed by Alexis Tsipras on 15.6% and Maria Karystianou on 7.8%.
On the first signs of public response to the new parties led by Tsipras and Karystianou, 25.5% of respondents said they view Tsipras’s party positively or somewhat positively, while 61.2% view it negatively or somewhat negatively.
Karystianou’s party was viewed positively or somewhat positively by 29.6% of respondents, while 56.1% viewed it negatively or somewhat negatively.
The government’s performance was rated positively or somewhat positively by 35.2% of respondents, while 64% rated it negatively or somewhat negatively. Among New Democracy voters, 68.6% assessed the government’s performance positively or somewhat positively, compared with 30.4% who rated it negatively or somewhat negatively. Notably, 31% of PASOK voters also gave the government a positive or somewhat positive assessment.
According to the poll, the main concern among Greeks remains the high cost of living and inflation, cited by 73.8% of respondents. Wages and pensions follow in second place at 39.4%, while corruption ranks third, at 31.4%.
