Ukraine launched a drone attack overnight targeting the wider St. Petersburg area, causing fires at company warehouses and triggering alarm among Russian authorities.

According to Russian officials and local media reports, the attack was part of a large-scale operation that also struck Tver and Crimea.

The governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, confirmed that the city had come under drone attack, stating via Telegram that the targets were civilian infrastructure facilities along Moskovskoye Highway, without providing further details.

Earlier, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, announced that Russian air-defense forces had shot down nearly 60 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to Russian Telegram channels, among the targets of the attack were again logistics centers belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest e-commerce company.

A major fire broke out at one of the company’s facilities in the Utkin Zavod business park, in the village of Novosaratovka, directly south of St. Petersburg.

Videos posted on social media showed thick black smoke rising above the area.

At the same time, independent Russian Telegram channels, including ASTRA, reported that a second Wildberries facility in the Shushary district of St. Petersburg was also hit, where another fire broke out.

Wildberries itself announced that two of its warehouses in the city had suspended operations, without clarifying the reasons for the shutdown.

Russia says it struck three Ukrainian ports overnight

St. Petersburg—the birthplace of Russian President Vladimir Putin and a city located approximately 1,100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border—has experienced very few attacks since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, as it is protected by a strong air-defense network.

However, in recent months, Ukrainian drone attacks have increasingly succeeded in penetrating Russian air defenses, striking targets even in heavily protected areas such as Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Videos circulating on social media show large fires and dense clouds of black smoke rising from the damaged facilities, while so far there have been no official reports of casualties.
