The tough task that Greek PM Alexis Tsipras will be faced with, namely, to convince his MPs to vote for a deal with institutional creditors and the harsh tax-and-tax measures which accompany it, is presented by Bloomberg.
According to the relevant article, the Leftist Platform – ruling SYRIZA’s ‘internal opposition – which numbers around 40 MPs and is comprised of cadres that mostly “cut their political teeth” with the Communist Party, could create a government crisis if a number of from its ranks vote against the plan. Bloomberg notes that many ruling party MPs would rather see Greece default.
At this point, Bloomberg states that after yesterday’s Eurogroup and Summit, Deutsche Bank sent a note to its customers in order to inform them on everything concerning Greek negotiations.
Specifically, George Saravellos, a Deutsche Bank analyst, underlined that it would be a great challenge for the Greek PM to manage to ratify the deal through Parliament.
Saravelos estimates that SYRIZA will have between 10 and 40 “leaks” of MPs, while he notes that if there is a considerable “leak” then support to pass the measures would be required from the opposition — which would then open the way for greater changes in the government, or even a referendum.
