A Category 4 (very high) wildfire risk has been forecast for tomorrow in Attica, Boeotia and Evia, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, part of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The very high risk rating applies specifically to the following areas:

  • Attica Region
  • Central Greece Region (Boeotia and Evia regional units)

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has notified the relevant government agencies, along with the regional authorities and municipalities in these areas, instructing them to maintain heightened civil protection readiness so they can respond immediately to any fire outbreaks.

The Fire Service has announced that, due to multiple incidents across the country combined with prevailing weather conditions, its personnel nationwide remain on general alert to meet the increased operational demands.

Aerial surveillance patrols are continuing, alongside ground patrols carried out jointly by fire, police and military forces.

The Civil Protection Action Plan for tackling forest fire risk also remains in force in these regions. Among other measures, it provides for a preventive ban on vehicle access and on visitors remaining in national parks, forests and other areas deemed vulnerable to fire.

The Fire Service has also issued an appeal to the public, urging people to:

  1. Take particular care and avoid any outdoor activity that could cause a fire through negligence, such as burning dry grass, branches or garden waste, using spark producing equipment like angle grinders or welding tools, using outdoor barbecues, smoking out beehives, or discarding lit cigarettes. Burning agricultural stubble is also prohibited for the duration of the fire season.
  2. Follow official updates on wildfire prevention published on the Fire Service’s website and its official Facebook and X accounts.
  3. Report any fire they spot immediately by calling the Fire Service on 199.

The Fire Service has reiterated its call for the public to remain especially vigilant and, in the event of a fire, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities closely for their own safety.

For further information and self-protection guidance against forest fire risks, the public can visit the General Secretariat for Civil Protection’s website at www.civilprotection.gr.
