Iran’s state television (Channel 3) has broadcast a video describing efforts to locate and reach Barron Trump, son of US President Donald Trump, with reference made to a $10 million reward. It is a fresh, direct threat against a member of the US president’s immediate family, coming just weeks after a similar segment targeted US First Lady Melania Trump.

The roughly three-minute video focuses on Barron Trump and uses dramatised graphics to present alleged attempts to identify ways of reaching him. The footage includes imagery suggesting surveillance, online activity, and people from his circle.

It also shows locations and online platforms said to be linked to the effort, along with attempts to map the social connections around the president’s son and to bypass the layers of security provided by the US Secret Service.

Iran International, which reported on the video, said it was unable to independently verify the operational claims it makes, noting that the material relies heavily on staged graphics.

The significance of the state broadcast

Regardless of whether the claims reflect reality, particular significance lies in the decision itself by Iranian state television to broadcast material of this kind.

Threats against Trump, as well as current and former US officials, have featured for years in Iran’s political rhetoric, in state-linked media, and at rallies. At the same time, US authorities have attributed alleged assassination plots against American officials to Tehran.

Similar videos have been broadcast in the past targeting Donald Trump himself, as well as Melania.

US prosecutors have previously accused members or associates of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) of plotting to assassinate former senior American officials, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton. According to US authorities, the motive was revenge for the 2020 US killing of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, the IRGC’s overseas operations arm.

Threats against Trump

Trump himself has also been at the centre of alleged Iranian assassination plots. US prosecutors announced in 2024 that Tehran had tasked an associate with drawing up a plan to kill him, while Iranian threats have contributed to tightened security measures around the US president.

Such rhetoric has intensified dramatically since the war began on 28 February, when joint US-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with other senior military and political officials.

Since then, calls for revenge have become a central feature of hardline rhetoric in Iran. Hundreds of thousands of people who attended Khamenei’s funeral chanted slogans against the United States and Israel, while some hardliners openly called for Trump’s assassination.
