Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced today (20 September) that her government will soon approve new measures imposing a cap on the number of foreign pupils in each school classroom across the country.

At the same time, as Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara had already announced, the Italian Prime Minister said that parents of foreign pupils with poor academic performance will be required to learn Italian, while the wearing of the burqa and hijab will be banned in all schools across Italy.

“Italian children must not feel like a minority in schools; we cannot accept that,” Meloni stressed while speaking at the youth festival of her party, Brothers of Italy.

Italian PM Meloni:

It cannot happen — it cannot happen — that in an Italian classroom, Italian children are the ones who feel pushed into a corner because they have become the minority. That cannot happen.
