AHEPA leadership met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a luncheon held in New York City this week on the sidelines of the scheduled United Nations General Assembly.

The “Oli Mazi” luncheon was co-hosted by AHEPA and several other Greek American organizations to welcome Prime Minister Mitsotakis to the United States.

Representing AHEPA at the event were Supreme President E. Chris Kaitson, Supreme Vice President Dr. Zenon Christodoulou, Supreme Secretary Themistocles Frangos, Supreme Counselor Theodore Stamas, Supreme Governor Asteris Fanikos, Board of Trustees Chairman Nicholas A. Karacostas, PSP, Esq., BOT Vice Chairman Savas Tsivicos, PSP, Sons of Pericles Supreme President George Kalyvas and Maids of Athena Grand President Cristina Saavedra-Mamounis.

During the event, Prime Minister Mitsotakis awarded six individuals the “Order of the Phoenix,” one of the highest civilian honors of the Hellenic Republic. The recipients were recognized for their service and support of Greece, particularly through their contributions to strengthening Greece’s international standing and their work with the Greek American diaspora.

Following the awards ceremony and the Prime Minister’s remarks, Supreme President Kaitson spoke with Mr. Mitsotakis about his and his delegation’s upcoming trip to Greece in October and made arrangements for a meeting during their time in Athens.

Kaitson also highlighted AHEPA’s donation of an MRI machine to the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki, the organization’s current annual scholarship program, which awards $3.3 million, and the continued success of the AHEPA Journey to Greece Program.

“The luncheon was an incredible success and an absolute honor,” Kaitson said. “We wish the Prime Minister all the best for the week ahead during the UN Assembly, and look forward to working with his Government to enhance the lives of all Greek Americans.”
